Take him to spend a day at a spa or something like that. I think champagne is a bit strange if they are good friends with her and know what type of champagne, which he loves.
May, depending on whether you go to a party / dinner or just dumping a bottle of whiskey in his office. If it is not a party (at work), a bottle of wine or champagne is great. If you are at work - a gift card for a coffee, a pen of Nice, picture frames, a CD is too high - something simple and inexpensive.
